Change is in the air as we enter the Fall Season
God’s Word tells us in Ephesians 4:22-24 that we have a
responsibility to put on the “new self”.
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of
life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful
desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new
self, created to be like God in true righteousness and
holiness.”
Putting on the new self is something that we, as
believers, do. God doesn’t do this for us…we do it. We have already been made
the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. (II Corinthians 5:21) God has made
us righteous in Christ Jesus, but we must appropriate that promise and walk in
that position of righteousness.
Simply put, righteousness is defined as having the right
to stand before Almighty God without the sense of guilt, shame or inferiority as
if our sin never existed. When we have Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God sees
us as righteous. This is the position we stand in as Christians, but how is it
done?
By using the verses from Ephesians 4:22-24, we walk in
our position of righteousness. We choose on a daily basis to put off our old
self, our old way of life, our old habits and patterns. We choose to submit
those old ways to God and then intentionally put on the new self. The new self
mirrors the character of God. It is righteous and holy. Therefore what we
think, what we say and what we do each day must line up with the character of
God. The character of God is clearly shown through His Word, the
Bible.
So, as Spring unfolds its season of new beginnings, make
a commitment in your heart that you will unfold the “new self” you have been
made to be….the righteousness of God in Christ. Intentionally put that new self
on everyday and watch what great things will spring up in your life this
season!
God Bless you as you apply His Word to your daily
life.
